If you're looking for one calendar to coordinate a professional team, Google Calendar really should be it. And you can create appointment slots to mimic a meeting scheduler tool. There's now a work location tool and the ability to split your work hours, both of which recognize the changing nature of work. Google Workspace users have access to a number of work-related features, including many specifically meant for remote or hybrid teams. It's easy to see Google Calendar in your Gmail sidebar, for example, or to invite your Google Contacts to an event. The integration with Google features is another plus, assuming you're already a Google user. There are great mobile apps, or you can use a third-party app for the desktop if you prefer (every other app on this list can sync with Google Calendar). (It's how my girlfriend and I coordinate our hectic schedules.) You can create as many calendars as you want or subscribe to any iCal-compatible calendar, then choose which calendars you do and do not want to see. You can share entire calendars, for example, which is great for coordinating with your team or even just having a shared calendar with your significant other. Even inviting other contacts, or adding a Google Meet video conference, is straightforward.ĭig in, though, and you'll find all kinds of features. Google Calendar is both powerful and flexible, all without being hard to use. Check out our lists of Android calendar apps, iPhone calendar apps, and Mac calendar apps if you want those sorts of platform-specific applications. The best online calendar lets you see your schedule no matter where you are or what device you have on hand-or at least on all the devices you own.įor the most part, I focused on calendar platforms-I didn't consider mobile- or desktop-only apps designed just to sync with other services. I gave preference to apps that are accessible on more than one platform. That way, you can keep your schedules in sync when you need to.Īvailable for multiple devices. The best shared calendar apps include invitations to events and even the ability to share entire calendars. You almost certainly need to schedule events with other people-whether they're for work or your personal life. For those apps that aren't heavy on features, I looked for customization options that make the app adjust to your style-a calendar app should give you options, not lock you into a certain way of planning your day. But if you're a serious scheduler, power features, such as customizable views and integrations, will help you get the most out of your calendar app. If you just need a way to keep track of your days, a desk calendar will do fine. How do they handle time zones? Or overlapping events? Can you use it for both your personal life and your professional life? I wanted to find calendars that feel like they were made by people who love calendars. Does the calendar software do what it says it's going to do? And does it do it well? While calendars are simple in principle, in practice, there are plenty of challenges to overcome. You should be able to add events quickly and accurately, see what's coming up, and arrange your schedule without having to hit up the help docs.ĭesigned with intention. You might even find that you can capture interesting details you didn’t see before, or that the composition of your shot feels completely different. When taking interior photos, don't be afraid to use the ambient lights available to lighten up dark spaces. Fortunately, a well lit lamp or overhead light can do wonders to brighten up your shot. When working with interiors, it can be hard to capture the detail of those dark corners. This might take some finesse, you don’t get too frustrated.Īvoid drowning out the natural mood of the ambient light, or creating stark shadows.Īnd remember that ambient light can be fleeting. Make sure you balance your distance from the subject, and take some test shots to figure out the best exposure. Mixing flash with ambient light is all about balance. It all comes down to the type of lighting you choose to capture. From mysterious and dreamy to harsh and dark. In fact, ambient lighting can be used to create several kinds of atmosphere. Candles and fireplaces can be a great way to warm up a space, whereas neon lights can create a cool atmosphere. Likewise, as shown in the example above, you can also set the mood with artificial light. Want a cool, wintery shot? Try taking a shot when the sun is just barely peeking through the clouds. From creating atmosphere to balancing the light in your shot, ambient light has many uses. Though, there are important tips and tricks to capturing amazing ambient light shots.Īfter you learn about the ambient light definition, this comes next: In general, keeping the unintended light in the shot as un-edited as possible will be the best way to capture true ambient light. However, there can be a grey area between the levels of modification that would still constitute ambient light. It's important to note that any light that you as the photographer added to, or modified for the shoot is not considered ambient light. Odds are, you've likely captured ambient light photography, even if you weren't aware of it. On the other hand, examples of artificial ambient light include: fireplaces, candles, string lights or lamps. Natural ambient light can include things like sunlight, moonlight or fireflies. If that sounds like a wide range, that's because it is! This can include both natural and artificial lighting. Luckily, this article will serve as your one-stop guide to understanding ambient light.Īmbient light can be defined as any form of light that you didn’t add to your photo. From portraits to interiors, you can use it to add a cinematic touch to your photos. However, when done right, ambient light can produce stunning photography. Much like its predecessor, Commandos 2 sees the player taking on the role of an allied officer in charge of directing a group of commandos, each with a different set of skills and abilities that they can use, who take part in a series of twenty-two missions - two training stages to get used to controlling the commandos ten story missions and ten bonus missions that feature unique challenges and situations to complete, but are only accessible after each story mission is completed, if the player acquires a set of books marked "BONUS" within each of them. Ī remastered version of the game, Commandos 2 - HD Remaster, featuring updated graphics and controls, developed by Torus Games and published by Kalypso Media was released in 2020: for Microsoft Windows on 24 January, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 18 September, and for the Nintendo Switch on 4 December, and is set to be released for iPad and Android at a later date. In 2005, the game was bundled together with Commandos 3: Destination Berlin as part of the Commandos Battle Pack by Feral Interactive. While the PC version of the game was well received, the console versions received less favourable reviews. The game features several improvements to the gameplay from its predecessor, including the ability to use enemy weapons and explore interior locations, the inclusion of three new commandos, a number of new skills for the original six members along with their other abilities, and new pieces of equipment to help overcome the enemy. The game sees players taking control of a squad of commandos, along with various allied units, as they sneak behind enemy lines to accomplish various missions in World War II, between 19, that will help them to thwart the war efforts of the Germans and the Japanese. It is a sequel to Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines and the second installment of the Commandos series, and is the only strategy game of the series to be designed not only for Microsoft Windows, but also for PlayStation 2 and Xbox. Commandos 2: Men of Courage is a real-time tactics video game, developed by Pyro Studios, published by Eidos Interactive, and released on September 20, 2001. Obviously the requirements are going to vary depending on the image. My understanding of the creative sharpening mentioned in the discussion is that it has more to do with local contrast enhancement than with actual sharpeningThe two inter-act sharpening increases contrast around edges whilst local contrast is also about tones with relation to their surroundings. I already ordered Fraser's gold mine, thanks for the reference! Is it also after upscaling, say to 250 PPI? Output sharpening is important after downscaling. If I understand correctly Colin's comment on January 21st, I don't actually have to output sharpen. Most of my printing from a 10 Mp camera is on A4 at 360 or on A5 at 720 PPI, meaning native resolution. Actually, QImage tells nothing about what values are applied when you select that 'moderate' sharpening. So, even a moderate output sharpening can have devastating effects if it is not closely controlled. At last I made an additional print setting the output sharpening by QImage to zero and there it happened: the double halo vanished. Now, I had a picture, which I re-edited several times to moderate those sharpening artefacts at the transition between rock and sky. I print using QImage, a specialized program, so I let it output sharpen my pictures to its taste the default setting is actually 'moderate'. Yesterday, I was confronted to an output sharpening issue. Would it not be easier to add a parameter, namely an upper threshold, avoiding sharpening where the differences in luminance excess a certain value, say 100 or 120? It would be much easier to avoid sharpening artefacts where they appear first, namely at luminance frontiers, which are clearly identified anyway? Lightzone does not have the flexibility of PS, but you know, limitations sometimes also makes one to be creative. I came across various masking techniques, applied either to sharpen selectively borders or on the contrary to exclude identifiable borders from sharpening. Selective sharpening was also mentioned in the discussion, this is actually a critical point (time factor multiplied by the limits of the computing resources at your disposal.)īut I certainly will be lazy again in the future and wonder why the USM algorithms did not evolve to cope with that difficulty. I usually exclude the sky, at least at small radius USM, but sometimes i am too lazy to do this and there it happens, I get strong dark and light borders at the frontier between that rock and a brilliant haze in the sky. The issue I am struggling with concerns the necessity of being selective, when sharpening or enhancing contrast. If you have a lot of grass in the foreground, it will be local contrast enhancement. If the latter consists on large homogeneous surfaces, it will be a sharpening. Whether it is sharpening or contrast enhancement depends actually on the subject. My understanding of the creative sharpening mentioned in the discussion is that it has more to do with local contrast enhancement than with actual sharpening, starting with a radius of 2.3 for example at an amount of 53/500. I always apply small radius before large radius, to avoid strengthening halos. Of course, there is a capture sharpening in C1 of the 300 /.7 / 4 type. My general strategy is to develop 'flat' (checking the 'linear' option instead of keeping the 'Standard Film' option) and to apply a tonal curve later in Lightzone, together with local contrast enhancements using an USM tool at various radius - say, 8, 24, 64 as an example. My present workflow consists in developing raw files with Capture One and post processing them in Lightzone. I am presently trying to cope with the sharpening strategy and came across the interesting discussion started last January by Colin ( When/How to Best Sharpen a Digital Photograph).
